Treatment of Highland Frogs from the Two Legged Stage with Homeopathically Prepared Thyroxin (10-11 – 10-21)
Gerhard Lingg1, P. Christian Endler1,*, Michael Frass1, and Harald Lothaller2,
1Interuniversity College for Health and Development Graz/Castle of Seggau, Austria

For the experiment presented here, we used the same setup as for the initial multilaboratory study[1,2,3,4], but a special preparation process of the homeopathic drug involving dilution steps of 1: 50,000 and leading to thyroxin 10–11 – 10–21 was used.

Effects of cannabinoids on cholinergic-mediated contraction of human bronchi
Stanislas Grassin Delyle, Emmanuel Naline, Amparo Buenestado, Charles Advenier, Philippe Devillier,
UPRES EA220

The current study was performed to investigate the role of cannabinoid (CB) receptors on the cholinergic contraction of isolated human airways. Results obtained with WIN55,212-2 (CB1/CB2 agonist), JWH-133 (CB2 agonist) and CB receptor selective antagonists suggest that CB1-receptor stimulation inhibits the cholinergic contraction in human isolated bronchi through stimulation of prejunctional receptors, located to post-ganglionic cholinergic nerves.

Accuwik® Ultra Membrane for the Direct Collection, Storage, and Efficient Rapid Release of Biological Samples for Clinical Diagnostics
Galina Fomovska, Stephane Perreault, Richmond Lo, and Martin A. Smith,
Pall Life Sciences

Poster data assesses use of Pall’s Accuwik Ultra membrane as a reliable tool for direct collection of clinical samples including saliva and plasma, enables stability during sample storage, and allows for rapid and efficient release of clinically relevant protein biomarkers suitable for diagnostic analyses.

Expression of stress response protein GRP78 is associated with the development of castration-resistant prostate cancer
Llana Pootrakul, Anirban P. Mitra, Ram H. Datar, Shan-Rong Shi, Jie Cai, Debra Hawes, Susan G. Groshen, Amy S. Lee, Richard J. Cote,
University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California, USA

This study investigated the role of the GRP78 in prostate cancer progression and the development of castration-resistant prostate cancer, where cancer cells continue to survive despite the stress of an androgen-starved environment.

New Protein Biomarkers for Histopathological Classification of Breast Cancer
Brozkova Kristyna, Knoflickova Dana, Bouchal Pavel, Nenutil Rudolf and Vojtesek Borivoj, Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute

We used Ciphergen technology based on SELDI TOF-MS (Surface Enhanced Laser Desorption/Ionisation Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry) for analysis of protein expression profiles of 105 breast cancer tissue samples. The aim of this study was the identification of single proteins or protein patterns specific for different tumour subgroups, which should take advantage of the biomarker as an alternative to commonly used diagnostic and prognostic characteristics.

Alignment of 1H-NMR data using a Generalized Fuzzy Hough Transform
Erik Alm, Leonard Csenki, Ralf J.O. Torgrip, K. Magnus Åberg, Lars I. Nord, Ina Schuppe-Koistinen and Johan Lindberg,
Stockholm University,Astra Zeneca

In metabolic profiling, multivariate data analysis techniques are used to interpret 1D 1H–NMR data. Multivariate data analysis techniques require that peaks are located in the same variables in every spectrum – this requirement is not met in native NMR spectra. Current state-of-the-art alignment algorithms are unable to align peaks when the spatial order of the peaks changes. We present the Fuzzy Generalized Hough Transform alignment which solves the alignment problem.
